AI governance checklist for Australian businesses
Start by creating a register of AI tools, owners, vendors, data flows and intended uses. Include employee use of third-party generative AI services.
What to consider
For each use case, assess privacy, security, accuracy, fairness, human oversight and impact. Document approval decisions, staff training, vendor terms, incident escalation and periodic review. High-impact use cases require deeper assessment and professional advice.
Where to find authoritative guidance
Refer to the OAIC, the Federal Register of Legislation, and the Australian Department of Industry. This article is general information, not legal advice.
